This will be a short and sour rant because I'm tired and I think a little sick. What the hell is going on with Westboro Baptist Church (WBC)?
I know some people say that they have the right to free speech, which they do, and they are free to worship their version of their religion, again true, but are they really doing the right thing? Screw them.
Are they really a "church", i.e. do they still qualify for their tax exempt status? Rumor has it that they protest something and then when the police come to prevent a riot they find a reason to sue the police or city or someone with cash. I assume that's legal, although I bet that their god wouldn't be too thrilled. I'm an atheist so maybe I'm wrong about that.
With a church, what percentage of the money that they bring in must go to helping others to still be considered a church? I guess you could say that about any non-profit. When a non-profit uses their money to make a commercial then it could be considered advertising, but would it still be considered advertising if they spent way more than the norm in order to hire some big name actors and directors? Or would it be considered just a way for the non-profit people to meet some celebrities?
As I said earlier, I'm tired. I need to think about this some more.
